Advice

Someone dancing inside us
Learned only a few steps:
The “Do-Your-Work” in 4/4 time,
The “What-Do-You-Expect” waltz.
He hasn’t noticed yet the woman
Standing away from the lamp,
The one with black eyes
Who knows the rhumba,
And strange steps in jumpy rhythms
From the mountains in Bulgaria.
If they dance together,
Something unexpected will happen.
If they don’t, the next world
Will be a lot like this one.

  1. Dear Phillip,
Thank you for putting out this blog. I found it by chance a couple of days ago (while looking up Bill Holm) and have already returned to it for more!
I am staying with my mother, who is in her 70s, since a month now. There are moments I get irritated with her even though I love her. Somehow I clicked on your eulogy for your father. It made me a better daughter, even for a brief period, before I loss my patience with her again!
Just wanted to say thank you!

    1. Thank you for the kind note Roma. I know how tough it can be to care for a parent. Hang in there, and be gentle with yourself too. It is not an easy thing to do.
